The area's highest altitude is at 1608 meters, according to meteorological data, the northwesterly wind called Karayel blowing in the winter months brings precipitations to the district after crossing the Black Sea and creates heavy snowfall at the highest peak (Kartepe) of Samanlı Dağı as it encounters in the first place in the Marmara Region. The snow starts by mid-November and reaches 1,5-3 meters in average until end of April.
At the Kartepe Winter Sports Center which is one of the top ski centers of Turkey with its ski track of 42 kilometers built at 1250 meters, there are 14 natural tracks, 3 chair lifts and 2 T-Bar (teleskis). While easy tracks wait for the beginners, expert skiers may experience high levels of adrenaline at the steep slopes. The special 'baby lift' area is reserved for the children and those who want to remain a child. In addition to skiing, snowboard, big foot, snow motorcycle, nature walks, mountaineering, volleyball, paintball, basketball, trekking, bicycling and ATV safaris can be performed in winter or the summit and Geyik Alanı (Deer Zone) may be enjoyed. Of course, while going to Kartepe, the pleasure of eating soudjouk and bred must not be missed.
